Finding Skippy’s Location

Skippy, the anthropomorphic Smart Weapon, can be found in Night City’s Heywood district, specifically in the Vista Del Rey suburb. To locate this unique firearm, begin by fast traveling to the College St. metro station in Heywood. From this fast travel point, head south.

You are looking for a question mark on your map, which indicates an optional side mission. This marker will lead you to an alleyway near a funeral home, along the east side of Heywood. As you approach the general area, keep an eye out for a blue-green building featuring metal pillars. Adjacent to this building, you’ll find an alleyway that is fenced off and filled with trash.

To reach Skippy, you will need to climb onto a stack of cardboard bales and then over the gate. Inside this area, you’ll discover a dead body next to an open briefcase. Skippy is located within this briefcase. Upon picking up Skippy, it will immediately initiate a conversation with you, revealing its distinct personality and artificial intelligence. This discovery will also trigger the ‘Machine Gun’ side job. Skippy is based on the HJKE-11 Yukimura smart pistol and its stats will scale with your character’s level.

Skippy’s Initial Mode Choice

Once you acquire Skippy, you’ll engage in a dialogue where the gun presents you with a crucial decision regarding its auto-targeting features. You must choose between two modes:

  • Stone Cold Killer mode: In this mode, Skippy will exclusively target enemies’ heads, aiming for lethal takedowns and increasing critical hit chances.
  • Puppy-Loving Pacifist mode: This mode instructs Skippy to target enemies’ limbs, incapacitating them without killing them outright.

While the Stone Cold Killer mode might seem like the more effective choice for combat, there’s an important twist. After approximately 50 kills with Skippy, regardless of your initial selection, the gun will switch to the opposite mode permanently. If you initially chose Stone Cold Killer, Skippy will revert to Puppy-Loving Pacifist mode. Conversely, if you selected Puppy-Loving Pacifist, it will switch to Stone Cold Killer mode.

If your goal is to keep Skippy in the non-lethal Puppy-Loving Pacifist mode long-term, it is recommended to initially choose this option. When Skippy later queries your choice, telling it that “Killing is wrong” can help maintain its pacifist setting indefinitely. However, if you want Skippy to eventually be a lethal weapon, choosing Puppy-Loving Pacifist first will ensure it switches to Stone Cold Killer after 50 kills.

Keeping or Returning Skippy

After Skippy has permanently switched modes and you’ve spent more time with it, the gun will request to be returned to its original owner. This owner is Regina Jones, one of Night City’s fixers. At this point, you have two primary options:

  • Refuse to return Skippy: If you choose to keep Skippy, it will remain in your inventory. However, Skippy will continuously ridicule you whenever you use it, and this cannot be undone. Prior to the 2.0 update, Skippy could not be stashed, sold, or dismantled. As of the 2.0 update, you can now place Skippy in V’s apartment stash, where it will be displayed.
  • Return Skippy to Regina Jones: This option involves completing the ‘The Machine Gun’ quest. Regina Jones will factory reset Skippy, renaming it “Daisy.” She will then give you the choice to either keep the gun or turn it in for 7,000 Eurodollars. If you return it for the money, you will lose access to Skippy. It’s worth noting that the factory reset does not revert Skippy’s permanent mode (lethal or pacifist) that was established after 50 kills. Returning Skippy is the only way to remove it from your inventory if you decide you no longer want it, as it cannot be sold, dismantled, or stored elsewhere (pre-2.0 update). Post 2.0 update, Regina will call you a few days after returning Skippy to her, offering you the chance to retrieve it from her location in Watson, though its AI will have been removed. This allows players to add Skippy to their stash after the quest’s completion.
